About Christian and Samantha
Christian, from Guatemala, and his wife Samantha, from Pennsylvania, USA make up part of our committed staff here at YWAM Guatemala City. Christian has been involved in missions for over six years beginning in his home, Puerto Barrios, and coming on staff in 2017 after completing his DTS (Guatemala City) in 2016. Samantha has been involved in short-term missions since 2013, completing her DTS (Guatemala City) in 2018 and coming on staff in 2019.
Christian is part of our Transportation Department here on base, as well as helping lead and organize our Children’s ministry while Samantha is part of our Communications team and Kitchen teams. Christian and Samantha take part in staffing our youth discipleship school, SST, each November.
The Osorio’s long to see youth coming to know the power and potential they have through biblical study and a personal relationship with Jesus. They hope to inspire new waves of children and teenagers who are passionate about God and about making more disciples. The Osorio’s vision is to see the fruit of long-term discipleship throughout their involvement in various ministries, as well as through sharing their personal testimonies and witness of the faithfulness of God in their lives and in their mission
What is your favorite book of the Bible and it´s significance to you.
Samantha:Romans is my favorite book. I feel like it lays a solid foundation of theology that established the early church and continues to challenge us today as the modern church. My favorite passage of scripture is the evangelistic call found in Romans 10:13-15.
Christian:
What is the most exciting place you have been while serving & why.
Samantha: I led a team of young Guatemalans to Germany for outreach. It was exciting to see God provide for the tickets to Europe (very last minute) as well as the generosity of the church that received us because the students on their own I don’t think imagined being able to do all they were able to do during their time in Germany.
Christian:
What inspired you to join a missionary movement?
Samantha: I remember growing up in hard circumstances and the value of people pouring into me and believing in me in spite of my context. I wanted to be that voice in the lives of others. I wanted to be part of a movement that believed in young people and their God given purpose!
Christian:
How did DTS shape your view of the mission field?
Samantha: DTS helped me see the everyday sacrifice of the life of missionaries. It’s not all an adventure, there is a cost, and often a very high cost, to surrendering your life to long-term missions. Not everyone is called to missions as a vocation but everyone is called to missional living. DTS showed me missions as a lifestyle and not just as a job title.
Christian:
Share a story from your time in the field that changed or impacted your perspective in missions.
Samantha: In my DTS, we prayed for our national outreach location months in advance. I remember receiving an image during our prayer times. After two weeks in our outreach location, I finally saw that very image, and it amazed me to see God’s faithfulness. We were leaving the next day, it took time to see the vision fulfilled; but when I did…it reminded me of the fruit of commitment and abiding in God even when we don’t see immediate results
Christian:
What is your favorite thing about living in Guatemala?
Samantha: I love waking up and wherever I look I see a volcano in the horizon. Coming from rural Pennsylvania and growing up around flat farmlands, the view never ceases to amaze me. And all the coffee too!
Christian:
What nations have you traveled to and what nations would you still like to reach?
Samantha: I have served in Ukraine, Guatemala, Peru, El Salvador, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Germany.
I would love to serve in Ireland, Albania, Croatia, in an unreached Asian nation, and in a 10/40 nation
